Baies: A Softer, More Elegant Autumn Candle

Autumn fragrance can mean lots of different things. While some scents feel warm, spicy and traditionally seasonal, others bring a softer, more elegant atmosphere to the home, and that’s exactly how I’d describe Baies.

Part of the Autumn Gathering Collection, Baies is a beautifully balanced fragrance with notes of blackcurrant, rose petals, musk, lemon peel, fir needle and a subtle touch of clove.

What does Baies smell like?

The first thing you notice is the blackcurrant.

It gives the fragrance a rich, fruity depth without becoming too sweet. There’s a slight tartness to it that keeps everything feeling fresh and elegant.

That’s softened by rose petals, which bring in a gentle floral note, while musk adds warmth and smoothness at the base.

There’s also a touch of lemon peel and fir needle, which gives the fragrance a little lift, and clove brings just enough spice to make it feel seasonal without turning it into a traditionally spicy autumn candle.

The result is a fragrance that feels layered and sophisticated.

An autumn fragrance without the obvious autumn notes

One of the things I love most about Baies is that it doesn’t rely on the more familiar autumn scents; there’s no heavy cinnamon, no sweetness from vanilla, and no strong pumpkin note. Instead, it gives you something softer and more refined.

It still feels right for darker evenings and cooler days, but in a way that’s a little more understated.

For me, it’s the kind of candle that works beautifully when you want the house to feel calm and put together - perhaps after tidying the kitchen, before friends come over, or simply when you want to make an ordinary evening feel a little more special.

Where does Baies work best?

Baies is one of those fragrances that works in almost any room.

In the living room, it creates a soft, elegant atmosphere without overpowering the space.

In a bedroom or dressing area, the floral and musky notes feel calm and luxurious.

And because of the blackcurrant and citrus notes, it also has enough freshness to work beautifully in a hallway or kitchen.

Like every Cicely & May candle, Baies is hand-poured in small batches in our Lancashire studio using soy wax, premium phthalate and paraben-free fragrance oils, and cotton and paper wicks.

Each 180ml candle has an approximate burn time of 30 hours and comes with free UK delivery.
